When I was 11, on a day that my dad was giving communion, I ate the whole box of Christ! Good thing there was plenty more where that came from!

Given my intent to explore ideals that concerned you, I wondered what you meant and where YOU wanted to take this stream of thought. So, I (irrelevantly) explored the academia of it, still not knowing whether the field of study you identified had an Aussie equivalent and what relevance it had to the ultimate discussion.

Now you say it was me who "...sort of, asked where these sociology experts are..." when instead it was you who asked...and also you who already it seems had an answer for me. An answer you modified** from your original post to the claim sociologists are being "sucked up" by corporate interests.

**Your original reference seemed more positive ie the best sociologists were going instead to the most effective governmental, economical areas.

My "array of questions" were a few posts back from your response so confused me. These were trying to pin down what focus you were aiming for ie to help me stay relevant to your flow. ABC

I guess it follows that communication in communication study is singular? (I thought my question had better focus but I'm still none the wiser)

IF I made another attempt at it, I could GUESS you are saying that there is a source of knowledge that could be better directed to helping society that is instead wholly being squandered within the corporate sector for selfish or obscene purposes. But guessing = ASS-U-ME

I don't know the US experience nor perspective so investigate the global perspective. Medical doctors leave medicine and for example, go into politics. Crikey...our current Defence Minister has only medical qualifications to his name. I've no doubt some sociologists chase fame and fortune outside their sociologist skills base but shouldn't really retain the 'title' unless they're acutally sociologising.

I don't know where this all takes me, Pink. A quick search for 'leading sociologists' identified six US-based sociologists (from an international field of 16) taking a global perspective in a publication I couldn't fully access:

I'm thinking you have a cynical view on where the US sociologists have gone but your US experiences probably add context.

I'd like to continue with the ideals that concern you. If I could interpret that, maybe you could give the 3 things that most cheese you off in that area. I can't promise to comply with restrictions on what I see are relevant questions or qualifications/exclusions.

Every so often, I get a sense within suite101 that I'm caught up in a game I wasn't told was being played. Like over in the "mainstream" M & S area where fake outrage is all the rage. So, I guess something different was expected of me and I fell right where I was expected to.

I'm not familiar with your incomplete expletive but it's probably 'coded' and linked to what I call bovine melena. This thread seems more an example of that than of any fair dinkum exploration into the future.

Boringly...NO. I come here with a fair dinkum interest in what others post within topics or within articles. Reciprocity is out of my hands. But that's OK.

Society has been fed a line of crap for the most part of my memories that goes back into the 1930s.

Somewhere along the line I began to take a view that gives me some objectivity toward the goings on and the (for want of a better word) propaganda we are fed by those powers in control.

For a long time I would have said something about conspiracy theories and paranoia; but, now, it seems I have to say there seems to be something to the idea that there are some very powerful forces at work behind the scenes in this world.

How was it for you in high school down there in Australia? Were there some students that came from wealthier families? Did they seem to gravitate toward the top of the class? Did the rest of the class just think they were somehow more gifted toward leadership?
.
Is there a relationship between how it was in high school and the way it is in popular society?

I just looked up my sleeve and I saw all of that hiding up there.
