To recap: The thread had started as far as I believed to get to ideals of more concern to you...that others didn't seem as concerned about. You stated you wanted reasoned answers to honest questions. (On reflection, this was a one-sided aim eg my reasoned questions weren't part of the package) But I believed you.

I'm fair dinkum and able to apply deep thought. I thought we could give it a fairer go than what happens in the other area.

Your intro of the concept of mind **** or mind games or bullshit by another name...and Laurie's intro of 'bunny trails' (as I understand each term) corrupted the discussion for me. This at a time when I had trouble following you.

Remember? You had attributed to me comments YOU had made. Sometimes people play silly buggers with me...yank my chain. I take it in good faith until it's too obvious.

"Maybe if you restate your question in full..."
I've been a sucker for that technique before, Pink. I call it zero based management.

Tis a hard slog to get here, Pink. It's a day plus wait for any response for a start AND a very cantankerous computer AND a very problematic dial-up to the internet. I'd like to think my trip to anywhere within Mind & Soul is value-added but to coin a phrase: "I aint mad at youz."

When you and Laurie express problems following my reasoning which I have repeated, tis a worry for expecting to understand future discussions. But then, maybe I have no insight into my stupidity. Nah...I'm a dag, I know MY relative lack of sense. ABC happy happy

I am quite interested in this conversation (?) with you.
.
You are an Australian and I am a North American--that makes us reach across the cultural borders in order to discuss any idea or issues.
.
This post of yours is an example of the differences. You're using words and phrases that seem lost on my ability to understand what you mean.
.
I don't know if you're pulling my leg or if you think I'm pulling yours. I'm not. There is an esoteric sense in nearly every one of your posts and that throws me off track.
.
I have to apologize to you for my ignorance of your communication style.

I AM NOT PULLING YOUR LEG.
I THINK YOU ARE YANKING MY CHAIN.

I consider you a well-read, intelligent man. There is NOTHING 'esoteric' (per my dictionary's meaning of the word) in any of my posts except the old joke about "...esoteric cogitations..." NOR is there anything disingenuous in MY posts anywhere within suite101.

Disingenuous? Allegedly, my Post 43 gave you a "lot to think about". My earlier Post 30 raised "good questions" opening into a "wide array of subjects". NONE evoked discussion including a later request for you to nominate 3 more issues of concern to get the topic moving. But now, my style means you understand nothing about nothing...so your feedback on my questions reduces to NIL.

"I am quite interested in this conversation (?) with you."

So, tis volunteers for 'Communications Studies' you need? happy

I get it. L~) You are an expert interviewer and you like to fence.
.
I'll try to say things that you don't think you have to parry off.
.
My point about language had to do with the difference between how Americans talk and how Australians talk. You have a particular and highly developed skill in the way you use words like, crickey, which go over my head. Unless, you are refering to Jimeny Cricket. Are you? So, it would come off in the USA as a, Gee Whiz, or something like that.
.
What you and I are doing here is called metacommunication, I think. It means we're talking about how we're talking with each other.
.
So, I take it that you a social worker in Australia. Am I right?

Pink. I say I don't follow your point and from then on, the rest of this "discussion" has been based on my futile responses to you saying YOU don't understand me.

So, any "parrying" going on annoys the hell out of me and is clearly part of the game you are playing. Let's play "see how long redback will still answer without me (pink) giving any answer of substance".

I'm guessing if I had totally agreed with you or totally disagreed over in the other M & S section, you'd have regaled us with your arsenal of pre-prepared answers. But if I say I don't understand, you lazily reverse it ie say you don't understand me. A cop-out strategy. And I'm the dickhead that keeps giving you the benefit of a decreasing doubt.

You have "diagnosed" 'metacommunication' for all this which goes to your predeliction for Communication Studies rather than talking to the topic. Talking about how we're talking with each other is exactly what I'm temporarily trapped into doing...and it also annoys the hell out of me. Given your related silence, it must also give the lie to your claimed reasons for posting here that I've cited.

No...I was never a social worker although I have managed a few in my time. Among other things, I've been a policy analyst in Government, a special magistrate and had a range of other career experiences I've already bored people with here. A part of the baggage has involved persevering with people.

Crikey...not crickey..is a mild oath and derives from shorthand for Christ. It is something like Gee Whiz which apparently derived from shorthand for Jesus.

Anyhow, over & out.

I don't know how to solve the dilemma.
.
I think there is value in holding dialogue with persons far removed from our place in the world. Humanity needs it as an exercise. Maybe it's how we will learn to get along with each other.
.
But, it doesn't look like I'm doing a very good job of being amiable with you and I'm sorry for that.

Maybe we can just forgive each other for those things we think are being done against us so that we can come back at it in a better way?
.
Otherwise, it looks like a lost cause. I don't think that serves either of us very well.

If you can't (won't?) understand me or for some inexplicable reason you think we both need forgiveness(??) for unstated perceived wrongs, I have absolutely no idea how to progress from here except for casual, superficial input into other topics.

It's possibly seen as churlish not to accept informed apologies IF they're genuinely offered but the most positive take on any outcome here may simply be to agree we don't understand each other. That hardly seems the base for reasoned discussions between us.
