» ImranMagsi - Hesitation

Dear Sir/Madam

(I am not well up in English. So u can face some spell mistakes and grammatical mistakes also so sorry for that)

I have a problem.

In the meetings or in events I can not introduce my self. When I am going to say something, I feel shy and hesitation. I thought that if I say some thing wrong all will laugh at me. I also want to speak in English but as I said because of hesitation and shy I can not do any thing when I am in meetings, events, parties and gathering.'

Please Help me in this regard

Hello Imran,
You are experiencing a very common fear! Most people feel uncomfortable in social situations, especially when they don't know many people. It's hard to talk to new people, especially when you're speaking a foreign language.
-
I suggest simply practicing! As hard as it is, try to talk to at least one new person every day --- and focus on your positive experiences. I can practically guarantee that few people will laugh at your English (some people are that rude and mean, but not most people!).
-
I'd also suggest practicing English with people you know, so you can make mistakes and learn without feeling bad about yourself.
-
And pat yourself on the back -- you posted your fear on this forum, which means you're courageous and motivated to conquer the things that challenge you! That's a huge and wonderful first step to becoming more comfortable in social situations.
-
Keep practicing -- you can even write in these discussions so you get better with your English.
-
Good luck with it, Imran! Keep me posted -- write back in a week with some examples of speaking to new people :-)
