When I was a child in grade schools, there was a lot of interaction between the families and the teachers. That was especially so in the rural school where I attended. Most of the students were farm children and their parents took a big interest in the school and the one teacher we had for all 8 grades. May Day was a big event--all day. Weather permiting we were outdoors most of the day playing games ang going for an exploratory walk in the woods across the road to see the flowers that were breaking through after the long winter.

In the city where I also attended, there were regular PTA gatherings. My first recollection of PTA was a cake walk in which I won a beautiful white frosted cake covered with coconut shreds.

Did you get your higher education for teaching in Canada or in the States?
