» pink101 - The Hanging Rope

.
I thought there would be a place on Suite101 where I could put this post. It might work here.
.
-----------------------------------------------------------------

So, you think you're a conservative, huh? Wanna bet?

Vladimir Ilyich Lenin once made the following statement:

"The Capitalists will sell us the rope with which we will hang them."

I've been thinking about that lately.
.
There's China--the largest and most communist nation ever--being enthusiastically given jobs--by greedy capitalist American businesses--that were, in the past, in factories all over America. When I was a boy in high school, I knew that when I graduated there would always be a job waiting for me in any number of factories in my home town. And, so did every other young boy and girl. Now, if you're lucky enough to even get a job that pays a decent wage you had better have the proper attitude toward your employer or you will be out on your fanny.
.
Free Trade, NAFTA, CAFTA! That's the rope with which America is being hung, and the largest portion of it is being given to communist China.
.
How's that grab you?

At least the Capitalists are SELLING the rope, not giving it away for free (in true Capilalist style, huh?!).

I take it you don't support Free Trade, NAFTA, etc? But not just because of the threat of lost employment. I suspect there's more to it than that....

There's TONS of work in Canada - but I guess it depends on what you want to do, and how willing you are to take what you can get until you can get what you want to take.

Maybe the unemployed Americans should all sneak across the border into Canada so they can make a living?
.
Would they be treated like the Mexicans are treated here?

aaaahhhh!!! The promise of jobs when we left school, the promise of a job for life if you got a government job.

NOW 'economic rationalism' or 'globalism' or ismism or whatever they want to call it that lets the employee know the good old days are gone forever. Today's kids can only read in the history books of the hard won fights for workers rights in "my day". Rights that we so took for granted for so long it became a fait accompli union powers would be totally eroded. Unions became too greedy and contributed to their own downfall.

"Innocent" bosses & employers now reap the benefits Pink talks about.
BUT it's very interesting to read the USA feels its getting the rough end of the pineapple in its FTAs. At least they're getting a part of that tasty product.

I knew you guys were up to no good when you took over our Vegemite all those years ago. Maybe its kharma??? ABC

PS: Laurie's "I only work here, I don't actually KNOW stuff." kinda sounds Presidential but I don't know why. happy

Some great humor is coming to the surface here in this thread.
.
You two are making up a pretty good team and keeping me laughing. It's good for our health to laugh. To quote Buddy Holly, "That's what they tell me, that's what they say."

The messed-up discussion links on the Mind & Soul main page aren't my fault, either.

Hmmm.

Does that mean that Clinton really did inhale?

You couldn't be the one who messed up the main forum. Could you?

Wasn't me, man. I didn't do nuthin'.

Looks like things will be different there on the Mind & Soul page! I wonder if they'll link our topic discussions to the main page, so we can all read and even participate in the active discussions.
