» redback - bogged blogs?
In 'let's Get Personal', Laurie, after admitting she doesn't read them at all, asks: "What do YOU think of blogs? Do you read them, write them, or dismiss them?"In the 'discouraged' topic, I had earlier given a blog link to a lifetime friend of mine...in context. His writings, poetry...motivations, come from life experiences not academia..altho' he has that too. His 'desire' is driven by 'anger'.
This name 'blog' is computer-speak. For me, if I know where a person is coming from, I tend to better understand what they're writing...or may even be encouraged to read them in the first place. Crikey, I even read Laurie's blog. ABC
Here, we used to have the facility for a bio and that gave background. And me giving some personal background seemed to help certain readers...ignore me with feeling. ![]()
Re suite101, if I didn't understand where a person was coming from..either from a concise blog or buried within a plethora of posts, I'd probably think they were ruder than first impressions.
It is not distrust that routinely causes me to check the bios of people who are cited here. Do they really have the street cred posters claim and what other interesting things do they say? Crikey, I'm guessing less people would have started reading the Bible without getting some detail of Jesus' blog?

- bogged blogs?
I agree -- you can better understand a person's opinion and perspective when you know where they're coming from (via their bio if you don't actually know them). In our cyber world, it's especially helpful to have SOME idea of who we are. I like the idea of bios, and I would read them too. It's not a matter of trust (plus if you were really distrustful, you could believe that even the bio is not truthful, right?) - it's more an issue of getting to know someone.
It's like asking what someone does for a living. I love that question because it gives me a sense of who they are, what their interess are, and what they DO all day long.
Funnily and ironically: yesterday I became a blogger for a travel website!! Isn't that a big kicker?! I blog for Vancouver -- here's my first one, on all you can eat sushi yum yum...

Hey, if you have any ideas for travel topics I'd love to hear them....

The more I blog, the more I like it! Hopefully I won't say something politically incorrect and get fired.

Sorry...I'm actually finding it impossible to blog or do anything here. There's too many clicks to get to any live discussion I'm interested in and your articles don't have a hotlink to start a discussion.
I'll hang around fpor a while but tis not user friendly at all.
VALE: suite101!

In response to Hot Links? posted by pink101:You are sorta right?
Your instruction allows me to give a hotlink to someone else NOT vice versa.
The hotlink to which I refer is added by those within suite101 for our benefit. It usually has words to the effect: "Start a discussion on this article" as a hotlink at the foot of the article. And once we do that, it auto adds a hotlink: "Read the article..." at the top of the posts to assist those who wish to read the article that prompted the discussion.
OK...a check shows Laurie is now adding the hotlink to the foot of (all??) articles and blogs?
Some FWs show a link to all the discussions but it is not a widespread practice.
I'm sure you recall seeing this assistive tool within suite101 and I think I've seen other areas within suite101 still use it
.
With the loss of the general forum within Mind and Soul and other areas, it's pretty tedious going in search of articles that may interest me that may possibly have prompted discussion.
But I thought this complaint is being endlessly repeated without the wind blowing "it" away from my face...if you follow. ![]()
The re-jigged suite101 product is being directed to attract a different customer base, it seems to me. I understand Migisi likewise finds this frustrating.

- it wasn't me!
The hotlinks at the bottom of my articles aren't added by me. They were always there, as far as I knew, created automatically and electronically. I hadn't checked my blogs to see if they're there too.....but will check now!

- blogs don't rate a hotlink
No hotlink on blogs. Too bad.
Please follow the guidelines set forth in the Suite101 Posting Etiquette when adding to the discussion.
