One of her law of attraction experts said that if you're struggling, you're moving in the wrong direction.
What's the difference between struggling and trying really hard to get what you want? In a relationship, for instance, what's the difference between working on it and banging your head against the wall?
If a partner is abusive but promises to change, how long should you stay before it's just draining your life away?
I don't think I'm clear on the difference between struggling and trying really hard to achieve your goals. That's another thing - they said you shouldn't try, you should just accept. I guess you have to balance that with taking action? And figure out the difference between taking action and struggling...

I don't think the law of attraction is about focusing on the parts. It's about the whole of your thoughts, actions, feelings, and energy. It's putting your energy into what you want, as opposed to what you're trying to avoid.
It's a foundation of positive thinking, energy, and beliefs.
It's Ask, Believe, and Receive (similar to what Jesus taught).

.
This is a heavy area for thinking that you've brought up.
.
It seems like it can be approached from a number of places.
.
Aren't you dealing with the idea of integrity?

I saw the movie last night - it was very compelling, dramatic, and funny!

I do wonder about some things, though.
You aren't supposed to work to attain your goals - like grass doesn't strain to grow. You are, however, supposed to visualize yourself in the position you want.
How do the two connect?
Maybe that's the magic and mystery of the Secret -- the powerful laws of attraction in the universe. You simply attract what you want.
(but don't you have to WORK for things?)
I don't think I quite get it.

You definitely have to work for what you want! Yes, it's important to be positive and send good energy into the universe, but you still have to act. If you want to lose weight, you have to move your body and eat less. If you want to get a job, you have to send out your resume. If you want a better relationship, you have to work on communication and showing love.
It's not just about positive thinking.

Well this is an interesting discussion. I've had similar thoughts and did quite a bit of online research to see what the general thinking seemed to be. I'm still searching for good answers to the "big" philosophical questions, but I found lots of help with the practice itself. And since I'm trying to learn to practice abundance myself, I'm going to share it all with you! Hope it's useful.
It looks like this:
1. You sit and deeply visualize what it is you really want.
2. (Most important) Feel the way you will feel if it's already yours (full of joy). It's the feeling that will make it happen, not the thought.
3. Believe. Assume that it is coming to you, but don't set a deadline on it, trust in divine time. Over the next few days and weeks be open to signs that take you in that direction and follow them. The key is your "feelings." If you see an ad and you get a strong feeling, then follow that. If you get an idea...follow that. Have unwavering faith.
4. Act! This is an important step. But because it's in alignment with the universe (full of joy and excitement) it doesn't feel like work at all. Jack Canfield for example worked super hard to get his books out, but loved it so much it didn't feel like work. We all know what it's like to be in the "flow." Obviously everything has boring bits, but if it feels too tedious, reexamine what you are doing and get back on track with what really excites you.
5. Receive. Know in your heart all along that what you asked for is coming, and open your life to receive it (and be careful not to hang onto the security of other things that will get in the way of your new direction or manifestation--so if you want a new fella, first get rid of the old one, ha.)
**A key throughout this whole process is to flood your mind and body with feelings of gratitude every day you are working on this process. It keeps you in alignment with the universal energy.
**What to Avoid: The biggest mistake people make, other websites note, is mainly not feeling it enough when they do it (or feeling gratitude for what they have now), for the thought alone does not manifest anything. The second biggest problem is why you need to become self aware through meditation or whatever--and that's your darn subconscious. If it's telling you that you don't deserve nuthin' but lousy stuff, then it doesn't matter what your conscious mind is asking for. But you can probably ask to become more self aware--that's what I did, and at least that is workin'...
Hope this works for you (and me! and everyone!)
Happy Manifesting!
