Our democracy is better than yours where we get more say on matters that matter??!! Ours aint perfect either!
We're weaning ourselves off her at variable speeds, but both OZ and Canada are still constitional monarchies under a foreign Queen, Elizabeth 11. Think if Bush was the President of France and of the USA but lived in France who got all his attention...with Gov Arnie Schwartzie being his locum in the USA (Howard for us).
Over time, Lizzy becomes a figurehead that eats our taxpayer dollars whenever her or her brood visit and Howard gets more 'Presidential' coz he compares notes with geedubya ie he is weaning us off the idea of our Governer-General, Lizzy's rep here.
I think this and our convict heritage etc allows us never to take ourselves so seriously.
I may be wrong but I thought our attitude was more laid back than Canada's. And that as the more agitated and cynical among us get more 'airplay', the assumption is too many of us are becoming more "Americanised".
Hey, I'm not defensive. Despite what tone you read into my posts, I'm pretty laid back re politics. Outside of this forum, it rates no priority at all in discussion. Any input here borders on flippant.
I truly believe the "intelligent people" here are wondering the same as the intelligent people in the USA ie where their leaders are taking them. That countless get by without their daily dose of politics in each country. All peace is relative peace, eh?
