This is off topic and I sincerely hope that I don't do any harm. I'm only trying to find a start point.

For the past six months I have been the target of a hate campaign and it was distressing. In the end it turned out to be bogus but the effect was very real. I feel that I have valuable data on the anatomy of such a campaign and would like to offer it to someone researching such things for a greater understanding of what happens and how easily misunderstood it can be. I should like a pointer towards someone who might be interested understanding these things.

Yikes, even the words "hate campaign" sound horrible. Why were you the target, and what did they do? And -- what do you mean it was bogus in the end?

I don't know offhand of any hate campaign researchers...you could try googling "hate campaign" maybe.
