» Feature Writer Laurie Pawlik-Kienlen - have you met one?

I was hitchhiking yesterday, and a shaman picked me up! Never met one before. He does distance healing, and is working with a possessed woman hundreds of kilometres away.

Does anyone out there have any experience with shamen (shawomen??)

Hitchiking? My gosh. You must live in a pretty cool area. Or were you metamorphizing?
.
I had a friend who took a sabatical in the southwest to live with some Native Americans. He related with the Shamans of the tribes. He told some tall tales that were very interesting.

We live on an island off the coast of British Columbia, population 3,500. Hitching is common but I prefer my car. Once it took me 3 rides to get home, which was only 15 mins away -- people take you as far as they can.

I didn't know we had a Shaman on the island, that was a cool discovery!

You say "tall tales" - they weren't true?

Who knows? They dealt with drugs and peyote in particular--Carlos Castanadaesc. Some things you just have to say, ok. happy When a person goes on some of those trips, they experience things far out of the ordinary; thus, tall tales.
.
Sounds like you are very fortunate to live in such a place. How large is the island?

It's 20 square miles, and only a 20 min ferry ride from mainland Vancouver. It's lovely to live on an island - maybe I should write an article about that! Not everyone could, I don't think...

I had a customer who owned a pharmacy on an island off from Seattle. It seemed as though living there would define the meaning of the word, quaint.
.
Do you feel that your environment is quaint? How many people live on your island. Is property extra expensive there? What is the weather like? Yes, you definitely have to write an article about the experience. Some things need to be shared.
