Taking Your Best Friend With You?

Flying With Your Pet Could Be Hazardous

Very few cats and dogs lose their lives during a flight in US air space, but flying is still stressful for them.

I've been writing about losing a friend, and letting a friend go, and dealing with the death of your pet - and I just discovered an article about a cat that died during a United Airlines flight. If you're considering taking your pet with you when you go home for the holidays, make sure you examine all the options first.

"We are unclear how the cat got out of the kennel while en route to the aircraft. The cat jumped from the cart and was struck by a tractor traveling in the opposite direction." -- stated United Airlines officials about a cat's death. Evidently, snub-nosed cats and dogs face the most difficulties during air travel.

It's rare for a pet to die en route, but even healthy animals suffer during a flight. The best option may be to board your best friend, or ask a friend to pet sit until you come home for the holidays. That way, your vacation won't be tinged with sadness in the future.
