What is Science within Consciousness?

Quantum Activism is Replacing Outdated Materialist Objectivity

Jan 9, 2009 Dianne Lobes

Scientists are no longer denying the primacy of inner experience by insisting that matter is the ground of all being. As it turns out, it's consciousness that creates.

The Universe comes from consciousness, not the other way around. The order of "how things are", of "who's your momma?", has been reversed in a huge way from the paradigm of the last few centuries. This new worldview opens many creative possibilities. Quantum possibilities, to be exact.

Quantum possibilities are omnipresent, multitudinous and expanding, literally and figuratively, in waves of quantum objects until consciousness - ours or some other sentient being's - "collapses" them into the distinguishable particles of the manifest reality that we know and love. This collapse occurs when consciousness perceives, which is the same as choosing the possibility wave. The unchosen possibility waves keep right on expanding out into the universe, and do not collapse into matter unless some consciousness sees, and therefore collapses, them.

The Universe was Seen, then it Came into Being

According to Amit Goswami, Ph.D., professor emeritus in physics at the University of Oregon Institute for Theoretical Science and a self-proclaimed Quantum Activist, "without consciousness there is no collapse, no material particles, no materiality." Here's a taste of how quantum physics astounds: Goswami has proved that the universe didn't come into being until the first sentient being, whatever that was, saw it for the first time, which collapsed one of its quantum possibility waves into the material universe we now perceive - and the collapse was backwards in history to the instant of the Big Bang. Try thinking about that, and then still getting to sleep at night.

Pure consciousness, not subnuclear particles or synapses or DNA, is the ground of all being, and our ability to choose from among quantum possibilities is a major factor in creating the world, though not the only one. But it's no simple "Secret" like the so-called "Law of Attraction" - it's a lot more complex than that.

I Choose, Therefore I Am

The centuries-old Cartesian dualism of mind versus body shoved science into the materialist paradigm that causation is always upward from elementary bits of matter, and that one must be able to measure an entity before it is a fit subject for hard, "objective" research. This relegated mind stuff, like the phenomenon of consciousness, into the much "softer" realm of religion, until psychologists like William James and Sigmund Freud and physicists like Albert Einstein rescued it from its scientific shunning and excommunication.

Now, a hundred years later, scientists like Goswami are still working to research, write about and lecture on the already-proven properties of quantum physics, such as that causation is downward from the level of consciousness, the ground of all being, not upward from matter. The hope is that science and the rest of society including the field of medicine, can finally come into 20th, and then the 21st, century. But old paradigms die hard.

Seeing is Changing

The other property of quantum physics that drives "objective" materialist scientists deep into resistance is that once an object is measured, as it must be in their paradigm, it is forever changed - and therefore the study of the object is no longer "objective" in the traditional sense. Because an object has been measured, or seen, one of its many quantum possibility waves has now been collapsed into just one material manifestation of actual particles -- into "reality".

Science within consciousness and Quantum Activism open up many possibilities for our world, and for what and how we're creating from here on. Change is in the air, and greatly to be desired if measured against the recent past. The truth of how we effect it seems to be "in here", not "out there".
