Oprah Winfrey interviewed Carson Kressley about his reality TV show, "How to Look Good Naked." He helps women cope with body image issues, such as self-loathing and fear.

Carson Kressley transformed straight guys into well-dressed hunks in “Queer Eye for the Straight Guy.” Now, he’s begun a “perception revolution” for women. Carson’s new show is called “How to Look Good Naked” – and his mission is to change women’s body loathing into body loving.

The Reality TV Show “How to Look Good Naked”

“How to Look Good Naked” is Lifetime’s most watched reality series ever. Carson Kressley's show about accepting how you look naked is a carefully crafted, multi-step process. It also involves a lot of pain, tears, and honesty – and a desire to live for oneself, not for other people. “How to Look Good Naked” mostly involves women who struggle with low self-esteem, body image issues, and self-hatred.

Carson Kressley told Oprah that he didn’t know “Look Good Naked” would strike such a nerve with women. Carson is realizing how many women have deep body issues. Many women hate their bodies, feel like they’re the “fatties”, and can’t enjoy life or love the way they used to.

What Carson Does on “How to Look Good Naked”

Carson Kressley puts women through vigorous tests to help them get over their body image issues. "How to Look Good Naked" is an intensive three day, 12-hour process. Carson strips them down in front of a three way mirror, and asks them to describe how they feel and exactly what they hate about their bodies. Carson asks for their opinion on each part of their body – jiggly arms, large thighs, big buttocks, stretch marked stomachs – and points out that they don’t need to be perfect to be pretty.

Carson encourages women to talk about their bodies honestly and openly, and even helps them laugh about their flaws. He helps women face their problems head on – and accept their bodies as they are.

The Process of Moving from Self-Loathing to Self-Accepting

Carson tries to help women turn their self-loathing into self-acceptance. He asks women to be easier on themselves and try to like what they see in the mirror. Carson points out their strengths and unique points. He helps them realize and celebrate the beautiful women they are.

Carson asks the women to look at a lineup of women, and place themselves in the spot they think they belong (in terms of body shape and size). Most women are surprised to see that they’re slimmer than they perceive themselves to be.

Women are often their own worst critics. Carson helps women get in touch with reality, which makes them happier and more accepting of who they are.

Practical Ways to Look Good NakedCarson Kressley takes the women on his show shopping, and gives them practical tips. He explains how clothes fall on a woman's body, and which accessories slim the women's bodies and make them feel beautiful.

The final stage is a total body makeover -- and "I'm gorgeous" is how the women leave the show. They have truly learned how to look good naked.
